Serhiy Petrov, an imposing striker who played for Volyn Lutsk and represented the Ukraine U21 national team, died Feb. 15, 2026. He was 28.
The striker developed in the youth systems of the Volyn region. His top-flight debut for Volyn Lutsk occurred on March 1, 2015, during a match against FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk. Coach Vitaliy Kvartsyanyi compared the young forward to Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimović, citing his physical presence on the pitch.
During his rise as a footballer, he earned a call-up to the national U21 squad. He led the attack for the first half of a 2016 friendly match against Belarus before being replaced by Artem Dovbyk. After leaving Lutsk, he played for Zirka Kropyvnytskyi and Ahrobiznes Volochysk.
In the summer of 2025, Petrov joined the Russian military. He was killed in action while serving during the Russo-Ukrainian war.
