Rosalina Jalosjos, the former mayor of Dapitan City and governor of Zamboanga del Norte, had died at 79 on Aug. 14, 2026.
She served as mayor of Dapitan City from July 1, 2013, through June 30, 2022. She won another term in 2019 and was proclaimed the winner after the count and canvass were delayed.
Jalosjos became governor in 2022 after winning the May 9 election for governor with 249,956 votes, defeating former Dipolog mayor Evelyn Tang-Uy, who received 237,530. On June 30, 2022, she ordered a temporary suspension of all permits for commercial and industrial extraction of sand and gravel, pending an environmental review, checks of river conditions and an inventory of resources.
