Rosalina Jalosjos, a former governor of Zamboanga del Norte, died Aug. 14, 2026, at 79, according to Manila Bulletin.
Before becoming governor, Jalosjos served three consecutive terms as mayor of Dapitan City. Her first term began July 1, 2013, and she won reelection in the city’s May 2019 mayoral race.
In May 2022, while still serving as mayor, Jalosjos won the Zamboanga del Norte governor’s race over former Dipolog mayor Evelyn Uy, 249,956 votes to 237,530. She completed her third mayoral term on June 30, 2022, and became governor that day.
On the first day of her term, Jalosjos ordered a temporary suspension of permits to extract sand and gravel for commercial and industrial use. The suspension remained in place while provincial officials conducted investigations, resource inventories and environmental assessments.
From 2022 through 2024, Jalosjos pursued the HEATS agenda, covering health, education, agriculture, livelihoods and infrastructure. The provincial government provided free hospitalization for Indigenous residents and scholarships and developed district hospitals in five municipalities. It also gave farmers free seeds and fertilizer, offered livelihood assistance to vendors and fishermen, and pursued road-restoration and water-system projects. The Sindangan District Hospital was completed during the same period.
