Nancy Wyman, a longtime Connecticut public official who served as state comptroller and lieutenant governor, died Aug. 12, 2026, at 80, WTNH reported.
She served eight years on the Tolland Board of Education. She then won four terms in the Connecticut House of Representatives, where she chaired the Education Committee and held a leadership role on an education-spending subcommittee.
Wyman became Connecticut comptroller in 1995 and held the office until 2011, serving as the state’s elected official for financial reporting and oversight. In 2007, she and Hartford radio host Brad Davis established Connecticut’s Wall of Honor, a state memorial to service members killed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan since Sept. 11, 2001. She reported that Connecticut ended fiscal 2009 with a $925.9 million deficit and attributed most of the shortfall to falling income-tax revenue and job losses.
In 2011, Wyman became Connecticut’s lieutenant governor under Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, serving in the state’s second-highest statewide elected office. During her two terms, she helped launch and lead Access Health CT, Connecticut’s health-insurance marketplace. An extension of open enrollment—the period when residents can sign up for or change health plans—brought nearly 7,000 new enrollments and about 4,000 plan changes. In January 2019, she became chair of the Connecticut Democratic Party. Her lieutenant-governor service ended that year, and she stepped down from the party post effective June 10, 2020.
