Henric Holmberg, a Swedish actor, director, and screenwriter who co-founded the musical theatre group Oktober, died Feb. 11, 2026, of an undisclosed illness. He was 80.
Holmberg’s early career centered on performances with various leftist theater groups. In 1975, he co-wrote the screenplay for the film "Sven Klang's Quintet" before joining the 1977 Tent Project. This musical theater production explored the history of the Swedish working-class movement, with Holmberg performing the role of Communist leader Zeth Höglund.
After founding the group Oktober, Holmberg focused his work as an actor and director at the Gothenburg City Theatre and Backa Theatre. He frequently took on historical roles, portraying Rutger Macklean in the 1993 television drama "Macklean." In 2001, he played Adolf Hitler in the Gothenburg City Theatre production of "Albert Speer," a performance that was later broadcast on television.
The actor’s later projects included a role in the 2005 Advent calendar series "A December Dream." Holmberg made his final stage appearance at Gothenburg City Theatre in 2014.
