Giorgio Mammoliti, a former Toronto city councillor known for an outspoken style at City Hall, died Feb. 25, 2026, after injuries sustained in a fall at his home in the Wasaga Beach area. He was 64. His son, Christopher “Chris” Mammoliti, confirmed the death and said he was surrounded by family when he died.
Mammoliti served six terms on Toronto City Council from 1998 to 2018, representing North York Humber from 1998 to 2000 and then York West from 2000 until 2018. Over two decades at City Hall, he became a well-known presence in council debates and in neighbourhood issues across the former North York area.
Before municipal politics, Mammoliti served at Queen’s Park as the Ontario NDP member of provincial parliament for Yorkview from 1990 to 1995. He later sought the city’s top job, running unsuccessfully for mayor in 2010 and again in 2023.
Beyond council votes, Mammoliti also took on roles connected to major civic institutions. He was involved with the Toronto Zoo, the Canadian National Exhibition Association, and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, positions that placed him in the routine governance and oversight work that supports public spaces, events and conservation lands.
Across his years in public office, Mammoliti built a reputation as a direct, sometimes polarizing figure, and as a long-serving councillor whose influence extended into the boards and agencies that shape daily city life.
