Eduardo Parraguez, a Chilean politician who served as Pichilemu’s appointed mayor during the military government of Augusto Pinochet, died Aug. 9, 2026, at 90, according to El Marino.
Authorities appointed him mayor of Pichilemu in January 1976. At the time, mayors were appointed rather than elected by residents. While mayor, he served on the jury for Pichilemu’s first National Singer-Songwriter Festival in 1978, which brought nationally recognized performers and composers to town. He remained in office until May 23, 1979.
After leaving office, he joined the Comité Pro-Provincia Cardenal Caro, a local committee that campaigned to create a new province and make Pichilemu its administrative seat. Cardenal Caro Province was created in October 1979.
