Eduardo Parraguez, a Chilean politician and former appointed mayor of Pichilemu, died on Aug. 9, 2026, El Marino reported. He was 90 years old.
In 1963, he became the first president of Club Deportivo Estrella Olímpica, then known as Flecha Roja. In 1964, he was a founding member of Club Aéreo de Pichilemu.
During Chile’s military dictatorship under Augusto Pinochet, authorities appointed him mayor of Pichilemu in January 1976. He served until May 23, 1979. At the time, mayors were appointed rather than elected by residents.
After leaving the mayor’s office, he took part in a campaign by the Comité Pro-Provincia Cardenal Caro to create a new province for Pichilemu. Cardenal Caro Province was created in October 1979, and Pichilemu became its capital.
