Dave Marsh, an American rock critic and author who co-founded Creem magazine and wrote several biographies of Bruce Springsteen, died Aug. 14, 2026, at 76, Billboard reported.
Marsh began writing professionally in 1969 as a co-founder of Creem. The Detroit magazine became known as an irreverent counterweight to Rolling Stone.
Marsh joined Rolling Stone in 1975 and served as an associate editor through 1990. He also edited two editions of The Rolling Stone Record Guide, a reference work covering recorded music.
Marsh published Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story in 1981 and followed it with Glory Days: Bruce Springsteen in the 1980s in 1987. Together, the books traced Springsteen’s career through the mid-1980s. In 2004, Marsh brought them together in Bruce Springsteen: Two Hearts. The expanded volume added a chapter on Springsteen’s later career, focusing on The Rising and its impact on American culture.
