Peggy Webber, an American actress, writer, producer and director whose career centered on radio and extended across television, film and stage, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, at 100, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Webber started working in radio at 11 and played numerous roles at NBC radio studios from 1943 to 1952. During those years, she wrote, directed and performed in the live weekly television series Treasures of Literature. She also played Lady MacDuff in Orson Welles’ 1948 film Macbeth. Across her career, she performed in more than 8,000 network radio shows, 300 television programs, 100 stage plays and 20 feature films.

In 1984, after more than four decades working as an actress, director and producer in radio, television, film and theater, Webber founded California Artists Radio Theatre to revive radio drama. Its first production, Treasure Island, prompted 300 calls requesting more programs.

As the organization’s producer and director, Webber adapted scripts, worked with composers and supervised editing. She also directed and produced a public recording of Alice in Wonderland. Under her leadership, California Artists Radio Theatre produced more than 100 shows, including a later production of George Bernard Shaw’s Heartbreak House, and won national and international radio-theater awards.
