Mimmo Liguoro, the Italian journalist and media authority who became a familiar face on national television news, died Feb. 18, 2026. He was 84. Born in Torre del Greco, Liguoro spent decades as a central figure in public broadcasting, helping define news delivery for the Rai network during the late 20th century.
His work at Rai began to reach national prominence in the early 1980s. Liguoro served as the editor-in-chief and a primary presenter for Tg2 from 1982 to 1995. During this period, he managed the evening news broadcasts and reported on major domestic and international events. Following his tenure at Tg2, he moved to Tg3, where he continued his work as a journalist until 2006.
Outside of the newsroom, Liguoro contributed to Italian literature and music history. He authored the 1993 book 'Storie e poesie di un mascalzone latino,' which provided a detailed biography of the musician Pino Daniele. His writing often explored the culture of Naples, and his efforts helped communicate the region's heritage to a national audience.
Mayor Luigi Mennella of Torre del Greco described him as a reference point for the national media who encouraged a deeper appreciation for his home region. According to local news reports, he was a mentor for younger reporters entering the field of television news. He finished his professional life in Rome, having completed over forty years of service in the Italian public media system.
