Diab Al-Louh, Palestine’s ambassador to Egypt and a former permanent representative to the Arab League, died Aug. 9, 2026, in Cairo at 67. Egypt Today said the cause was an illness.
Born Dec. 28, 1958, Al-Louh studied journalism and media at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He joined the Palestinian national movement as a young man. Israeli forces arrested him in August 1977, and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. After his release, he held posts in Palestinian public administration and, from 1994 to 2005, edited Al-Karama, the Fatah movement’s official weekly. He joined the Foreign Ministry in 2005.
Al-Louh became ambassador to China in 2005, then served in Yemen from 2013 and Mauritania from 2016. President Mahmoud Abbas appointed him ambassador to Egypt and representative to the Arab League in 2017. He served as the League’s permanent representative until 2023 while remaining ambassador in Cairo.
In Cairo, Al-Louh coordinated with Egyptian officials on Palestinian affairs, especially Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid. He publicly rejected plans to displace Palestinians and emphasized Egypt’s role in supporting the Palestinian cause. He also took part in Arab and international forums supporting Palestinian independence and statehood. He remained Palestine’s ambassador to Egypt until his death.
