Carvalho built his most influential career at TV Globo, becoming closely associated with the network’s prime-time teledramaturgy both behind and in front of the camera. Over decades on Brazilian television, his name was tied to some of the country’s best-known productions, including Vale Tudo, Dancin’ Days, Anos Rebeldes, Celebridade and Paraíso Tropical.

He began working in television in the 1960s, including stints at TV Paulista and TV Tupi, before consolidating his career at Globo. A formative moment came in 1975, when he was cast in the original version of Roque Santeiro, a production that was barred by censorship. He later appeared in Locomotivas (1977), a period during which he also gained early directing experience.

Across long-running telenovelas and more tightly structured series, Carvalho became a steady presence in Brazilian TV drama, known for shaping performances and narrative pace on productions that drew large audiences and helped set the tone for Globo’s flagship storytelling.
