Chen Ying-git, a prominent Taiwanese-language singer, died Aug. 12, 2026, at 72, SETN 三立新聞網 reported. Her 1986 album 風飛沙 sold more than 1 million records.
At about 18, Chen became a regular singer at Taichung’s Wanxiang Club. Puppetry master Huang Junxiong recognized her voice and helped bring her into recording through the song 春風. In 1982, she released her first Taiwanese-language album, 天涯找愛人. The album was well received even though she had not initially spoken Taiwanese, and it marked her move from Mandarin-language singing into the Taiwanese-language music market. The earnings from the 1986 album enabled Chen to repay substantial debts.
In 1992, Chen recorded 海海人生, pairing new Taiwanese lyrics with a Cantonese song. Chen said in comments published by 東南網／中國台灣網 that it especially appealed to students, and the recording became an enduring signature song.
Later in her career, Chen served as a judge on the television program 明日之星. In that role, she encouraged singer Chen Yiting to return to competition and connected her with an opportunity in Xiamen. Chen Yiting later credited that support, in an account published by TVBS新聞網, with restoring her confidence and helping lead to a 2026 nomination for Taiwan’s Golden Melody Awards.
