Borger Breeveld, the Surinamese actor best known for starring as Roy Ferrol in the 1976 film Wan Pipel, died Aug. 10, 2026, in the Netherlands, at 82. The cause was kidney failure.
Born July 20, 1944, in Paramaribo, Breeveld played Roy Ferrol in the Surinamese-Dutch film Wan Pipel, released in 1976. He also co-founded Film Institute Paramaribo with filmmaker Pim de la Parra and Arie Verkuijl and served as secretary of the Surinamese Film Academy.
At the Surinamese Television Foundation, known as STVS and founded in 1965 as Suriname’s first television station, Breeveld worked as a media manager and television director. He made the current-affairs program Mmanten Taki and worked on other television productions and reports.
Breeveld served as an STVS media coach in 2016 and as vice chairman of its supervisory board from 2017 to mid-2020. He also judged Got Talent and took part in other Surinamese film and television productions.
